Pigeon River Rafting
The Pigeon River is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and offers rafting trips near Gatlinburg, TN.With regular releases between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the Pigeon River is the perfect summer rafting adventure for families. The Pigeon splashes through Cherokee National Forest, on the border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Releases on the Pigeon occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
There are two rafting sections on the Pigeon River, the Upper and the Lower. Adventurous families will love the continuous waves of the Upper Pigeon, available to kids as young as 8 years old. On the Lower Pigeon, you'll explore calm waters and fantastic scenery on a relaxing family float. With its calm riffles and deep swimming holes, the Lower Pigeon is open to rafters as young as 4 years old.
A Lower Pigeon River rafting trip is great for families with younger children, more relaxed rafters, and seniors. Guide-assisted trips are a great introduction to whitewater fun. The lazy rapids will challenge those with experience while showing off breathtaking views of The Smoky Mountains. Fun waves, ending in an exhilarating Class III rapid, will make this half-day trip a memorable one for newcomers.
The Upper Pigeon is a big water river with lots of exciting waves and action. Rafters are immediately confronted with fast moving water and standing waves. The rapids are mostly Class III with one Class IV.
Easy access via Interstate 40 and proximity to many tourist attractions make a Pigeon River raft trip a great way to spend an afternoon, away from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding towns. The Pigeon is located just 30 miles from Gatlinburg, TN, off I-40.
