Nantahala River Rafting in North Carolina
NC Rafting on the Nantahala River
Looking for an unforgettable family adventure? Located in western North Carolina, the scenic Nantahala River is a perfect introductory whitewater rafting trip. It is suitable for everyone, including groups, families with small children, and active seniors. You'll enjoy a unique perspective unmatched by any road or footpath. The steep gorge walls are covered with beautiful rhododendron, mountain laurel, and wildflowers.
During your trip, you'll travel downstream through eight miles of fast-moving waters, often surrounded by lush scenery. At the beginning of the trip, you'll paddle through Class II Patton's Run, a long rapid around a bend in the river. Your trip culminates in famous Nantahala Falls, a Class III rapid with rushing current and large rocks.
Join a guided or guide-assisted trip if it's your first time, if you're tentative, or if you have small kids. You'll enjoy the river while a professional ensures you'll navigate the best routes. Those with previous whitewater experience may choose to raft their river on their own, in a rental raft or inflatable kayak. Rafting on your own makes the river much more challenging!
Either way, you're sure to have a great time on the Nantahala River.
The proximity of the Nantahala River to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park makes it one of America's favorite whitewater rafting trips.
