The Blue River begins its picturesque journey high atop the snow-capped Continental Divide, near the town of Blue River.  It flows north off the backside of Hoosier Pass, and carves its way down to the mountain town of Breckenridge, Dillon and Silverthorne. Locals refer to the River as the Upper Blue and the lower Blue.  Below Breckenridge, the river widens and whitewater rafting begins below the green Mountain Reservoir on the lower Blue.  The Blue River is also famous for it’s outstanding trout fly-fishing all within an 8,000 mountain elevation.

Whitewater rafting trip on the Blue River is only minutes From Summit County, Colorado.  This entire area offers a refreshing mix of whitewater and breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery.  The Blue River winds gracefully through the Arapaho National Forest.  There will be over two miles of continuous whitewater that culminates with continuous Class II rapids.

There are many licensed commercial outfitters nearby the Blue River to ensure your trip will be safe and entertaining.  The State of Colorado puts stringent training requirements on rafting guides and rafting tour operators. Guides are entertainers, historians, geologists, biologists and chefs. Along with the excitement and laughter, you'll also come away from a Blue River whitewater rafting trip with an education. The season for rafting trips takes place from May through September. There are Minimum age requirements depending on the classification of whitewater.  A few Class III and IV rapids are to be found on the Blue.

Since whitewater Rafting on the Blue River is one of Colorado’s most popular float trips, plan on getting wet and bring your camera.  The rafting float trips are genially milder in nature and are designed to enjoy the awesome scenery along the river.  The water is from cool to cold and you should be prepared for whatever Mother Nature may be inclined to dish out. 

No matter what river outfitter or tour company you select, reservations are required. It is recommended that you to contact the river tour company for more information, since river conditions, and available trips change frequently. Most trips offered are either half-day or full day, although some overnight trips are available.
